Dr. Konstantinos Yiannopoulos was born in Tripoli, Arcadia in 1977. He received the Diploma and PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering at 2000 and 2004, respectively, from the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens.


Dr. Yiannopoulos has worked as a graduate and post-doctoral researcher in the field of Optical Communication Networks. He was with the Photonics Communications Research Laboratory (PCRL) from 2000 to 2004, conducting research towards his PhD Thesis titled “Ultra High-Speed Circuits for Digital Optical Networks.” During this period, Dr. Yiannopoulos participated in the design and implementation of several demonstration experiments in the areas of optical signal processing, ultrafast optical sources and all-optical logic. He also worked as a junior researched in European Union and National projects, including “Digital optical fiber logic modules (DO_ALL)” (IST-FP5 – ESPRIT no. 36078 (FET-open)), and “Optical Networks: Towards Bandwidth Manageability and Cost Efficiency (e-Photon/ONe)” (IST-FP6, 1st Call on “Broadband for All” – NoE).


In 2005 Dr. Yiannopoulos received a post-doctoral research position in Computer Networks Laboratory (CNL) via the National “Pythagoras” programme titled “Design of Architectures for Novel Almost All-Optical Switching Nodes”. Ever since, he has been active in the research domain of optical packet and burst switching network architectures and along with fellow research members he has studied issues related to the buffering requirements of optical architectures, optical buffer implementations and end-to-end network provisioning protocols. He has also participated in European Union projects “All-optical label-swapping employing optical logic gates in network nodes (LASAGNE)” (IST-FP6, 1st Call on “Broadband for All” – STReP), “Multi- Functional Integrated Arrays of Interferometric Switches (MUFINS)” (IST-FP6, 2nd Call on “Optical, opto-electronic and photonic functional components” – STReP), “Optical Networks: Towards Bandwidth Manageability and Cost Efficiency (e-Photon/One+)” (IST-FP6, 4th Call on “Broadband for All” – NoE), and “Lambda User Controlled Infrastructure for European Research (PHOSPHORUS)” (IST-FP6, 1st Call on “Research networking testbeds” – IP). In 2007 Dr. Yiannopoulos joined the Networking Technologies Sector (NTS), where he has been working as a senior researcher and engineer. Dr. Yiannopoulos has participated in several applied engineering studies that fall within the areas of expertise of NTS, including Metropolitan Optical and Wireless Networks, the Greek Schools Network and Broadband Services in the Western Greece prefecture.


Dr. Yiannopoulos is currently a Lecturer at the University of Peloponnese, Department of Telecommunications Science and Technology. His current research area is Optical Wireless Networks, and at the present time he is working on optical wireless system architectures and protocol analysis. Dr. Yiannopoulos has more than 20 published papers in international journals and 13 published papers in national and international conferences. His research related work has been granted with the international awards “IEEE/LEOS Graduate Student Fellowship Program 2004” and “Chorafas Foundation,” and has received more than 200 independent citations.
